I wonder if the plague spread to the New World, specifically the South? Most of my ancestors were in South Carolina before 1580, I believe, but I am sure some came later. Boccaccio's Decameron was written in reflection of the 1340 plague in Florence, and I taught that book for many years. Yet I still forget to take account of plagues and epidemics when I research my ancestors!
