The name change occurred when a Bigaouette immigrated to the US. Anyway, I've researched this a fair amount. I've found very little information regarding the Abenaki woman. What I did find is that the region her village was/is in would be the Lorette region (I'm unsure of that accuracy). I've been searching for the letters proving Claude was ransomed. They are the letters to The Sieur of Calliere and Sieur of Champaigny, Steward of Montreal. The letter should be dated around The Great Peace of Montreal. I also believe Claude became Catholic to marry Marie-Anne.Richard Bigouettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03193366722379347059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3533717770805440813.post-80528080797231339452024-02-06T18:58:41.212-08:002024-02-06T18:58:41.212-08:00Thanks for your post, I was just goggling "Ze...Thanks for your post, I was just goggling "Zealand, NH" and your post came up. One of my ancestors was employed by J.E. Henry, his name was Louis Boyle, he was a Locomotive Engineer, and he left Zealand in 1892 to work in Lincoln. The Boyle family were in the logging Industry. Theis article is from 2010, and it is now 2024. My daughter, Jillian, is a Professional Forester in Vancouver, Canada. We grew up in NY and Connecticut. As in your Note: Mabel Boyle, was the daughter of James and Catherine Boyle. Mabel and Louis (brother and sister) Boyle, is my Great Grandfather. Frank Boyle Sr, is my Grandfather (who I did meet), and Frank Boyle Jr, is my father. Frank just died at 95 years old in 2022. Whew, there you have it! That was a mouthful for me. I've been trying to get my head around Mary's husband Andrew; John's father. He didn't ever make it across the pond, did he? But did he die before Mary and John left, or did they leave without him? If you have any ideas on this I'd love to know!
My line from John goes to Joseph (b 1667), to Andrew (b. 1702), to Andrew (b. 1729), to Thomas (b. 1766), to George (b. 1792), and from there his son Frederick (b 1829) hops back over the pond and settled in Scotland where my 2x great grandfather was born (George Edward Newell, known as Ted) So many of them sea farers. At the time of his passing my 2x great grandad had sailed round the Cape Horn more times than anyone else still alive. I’m curious as Ann Archibald (Boyd) his mother) is recorded as passing in 1715 in New Hampshire and his father Robert Archibald also passed in New Hampshire (https://sprague.one-name.net/familygroup.php?familyID=F74625&tree=Sprague) John Archibald would have been 24 years old at the time of his mother’s passing, I’m assuming that Robert Archibald and Ann Boyd may have gone together with John Archibald to New Hampshire earlier than 1718. Otherwise Robert and Ann went first and John followed. I assume that the anew Hampshire recorded death of Ann Boyd is recorded somewhere for it to pop up so repeatedly online. I’d be interested if anyone has any theories about that. Can't find it yet. Joseph is a 2nd cousin to me, although Lawrence and Cassandra Southwick are 10th great-grandparents to me, so there may be another intermarriage in there somewhere. I've known about the Southwicks for years but was surprised to see Joseph shown in an 1837 Maine newspaper report as the uncle of Mark Fisher who was the father-in-law of Harriet White Fisher, a woman for whom I am writing a biography. I haven't been able to untangle all the Fisher to Southwick lines yet, but I'm working on it. If Joseph and Mark are truly uncle and nephew, then I am also related in some convoluted way to the Fisher family that is the topic of my book. Your 11th GGF Stephen Batchelder is my 10th GGF. I descend from his daughter Deborah who married Rev. John Wing and was in the first group to come to Sandwich. Since your line goes from Batchelder to Hussey and eventually to Thankful, Joseph Southwick's wife, then I am also related to Thankful. I'll have to work on that using Ancestry to find the links. I guess that makes us some kind of cousins, too. Thanks for posting about Joseph and Thankful.

Frank Comstock
SerenityWriterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00391188536324643670noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3533717770805440813.post-477783569198459032023-09-23T03:07:44.274-07:002023-09-23T03:07:44.274-07:00I've done over a dozen (maybe two or three doz...I've done over a dozen (maybe two or three dozen!) blog posts on the Munroes in Lexington, but they are mostly posts from at least 10 years ago. Whenever I picked up guests in the lobby I pointed out the murals. If you look closely at the third mural, you will notice a young boy in the foreground watching the loading a ship during the the French and Indian War. The next mural shows patriots getting ready for the Boston Tea Party. Note the man in the foreground peering into the scene. Is this the boy grown up? In the next three scenes this man seems to appear again, always in the foreground, always peering in as if he is our witness to the event. The final mural is a decade after Washington taking command. It shows the launching of Old Ironsides. You will note and older, more prosperous man in the foreground. Is this our friend from the prior murals. I have never seen anything written about this, but many visitors to the lobby have heard that story from me.
!Tom McDevitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06695170463579801555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3533717770805440813.post-90086954466459647892023-07-28T05:51:25.834-07:002023-07-28T05:51:25.834-07:00Happy 14th Blogiversary, Heather.
