Tombstone Tuesday ~ Clark Children, Windham, New Hampshire

This tombstone was photographed at the Cemetery on the Plain, Windham, New Hampshire


To the Memory of
Four children of
James & Elizabeth Clark,
Robert Clark, 3:
Died March 30, 1821
AEt. 35 years.
Polly Clark,
Died April 15, 1790.
AEt 2 Years & 6 months.
An infant, died Oct. 26,
1792.  AEt. 3 days
Elsey Clark, died Sep. 6.
1802. AEt 2 years & 7 mons.
Friends nor Physicians could not save
My mortal body from the grave.

From The History of Windham in New Hampshire (Rockingham County) 1719- 1883, by Leonard A. Morrison, page 378 - 379:
"James 3 [Clark] lived on the Haskell Farm, a part of the original tract; m. Betsey Spear, and d. on the farm.  Children: -
Polly d. April 15, 1790, ae. 2 yrs 6 mos
Robert, d. single, March 30, 1835, ae. 35
Samuel m. Jennie McFee; lived in Danvers, Mass; ch.: Lydia, Jane, Elizabeth
Eliza, d. Sept. 6, 1802, 1 yr. 7 mos.
Margaret, single; d. Lawrence, Mass
Jane, dec.
Mary, m. ----- Brown, res.Salem, Mass.
Betsey, single; d. Lynn, Mass
Sally, m. Sylvester Forbush, of Lawrence, Mass
Matthew, lived in Lynn
William, lived and d. in Lynn
James, owned the Haskell farm, which he deeded away, and d. single"

According to the book, James Clark was the son of Samuel Clark and the grandson of James Clark, an early settler of Londonderry and elder in the Presbyterian Church.
