Tombstone Tuesday ~ John Davidson, d. 1808, Windham, New Hampshire

This tombstone was photographed at the Cemetery on the Plain in Windham, New Hampshire

In memory of
John Davidson,
Son of
Mr. William &
Mrs. Jane Davidson,
who died Sept. 2,
1808; in the 17
Year of his age.
------------------------------
Affliction sore long time I bore,
Physicians were in vain;
Till God did please & death did care
To ease me of my pain.

According to the History of Windham in New Hampshire (Rockingham County) 1719 - 1883) by Leonard A. Morrison, page 426:

"21. William 3 [56] (DAVISON), b. Oct. 15, 1761; m. Dec. 14, 1790, Jane, dau.of John Barnet, b. June 24, 1765; d. May 23, 1832.  He d. March 20, 1839."

Note: There is no mention of the teenaged son John, nor of his mysterious affliction that killed him so young.  William was the son of John Davidson (1720 - 1799) born in Mennemore, Northern Ireland.  He came to America with his parents, William Davidson and Mary Alexander, when he was eight years old, first living in Woburn, Massachusetts.  John Davidson was married to Sarah McNutt, and first settled on a farm in Tewksbury, Massachusetts before purchasing land in Windham in 1750.
