in the             Year                     in the 48th Year
of his age                                of her age

This detailed close-up of the gravestone shows a winged skull, representing the soul, on William's side of this double tombstone.  Rebecca's side shows her in a coffin.   It is interesting that Mr. Eayrs information is missing from this stone.

Rebecca Clendenin, born 1744, died 15 September 1792 in Londonderry; was married to William Eayrs, son of William Eayrs and Genette Caldwell, immigrants from Ulster, Ireland.  He was born 24 September 1729 in Londonderry.  He married first to Susannah Tolford, who died on 28 July 1758.

There is a tombstone for a William Eayers died 12  November 1760, age 60,  is a completely different part of this cemetery.  It is obviously not this William, and could possibly be his father.  Where is this William?

Perhaps this is why the stone carver depicted William as a soul in flight, and his wife in a coffin.

Susannah Tolford Eayers, the first wife, is buried separately nearby.
