Recently a burial inventory was published for the town of Londonderry, New Hampshire.  This document lists all the documented burials in the municipal cemeteries.  It doesn’t include the one Roman Catholic cemetery in town, Holy Cross Cemetery on Gilcreast Road.  Contact the diocese of Manchester for more information on Holy Cross Cemetery, and there is information at this link:   http://directory.catholicnh.org/cemeterysearch/view/105

The burials are listed by plot number, not alphabetical, so it is a little bit difficult to find a surname, use the search function on your browser.  Before this list was published, the best place to look up cemetery information in Londonderry was the cemetery notebooks in the Leach Library, which were compiled by Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for Eagle Scout and Gold Awards.  Those notebooks are still at the library and are valuable because they contain detailed maps plotting out every known burial, and some have epitaphs recorded.

There are 7 municipal cemeteries in Londonderry:

1.  Glenwood Cemetery – on Mammoth Road between Mack’s Apples and the town common, the earliest burial 1790

2.  Pillsbury  Cemetery on Hovey Road – earliest burial 2004 ,

3.  Pinkerton Cemetery (AKA Old Hill Graveyard) on Hovey Road, next to Pillsbury Cemetery – the earliest burial is 1733,  considered to be the oldest cemetery in Londonderry.*

Forest Hill Cemetery in East Derry, New Hampshire

*For the oldest “Nutfield” cemetery, see Forest Hill Cemetery in East Derry, New Hampshire.  Derry and Londonderry were one town until the early 1800s.  Many of the original Nutfield Scots Irish settlers are buried at Forest Hill.  It is the only cemetery in Derry.  Contact the cemetery department in Derry at http://www.derry.nh.us/cemetery or the Friends of Forest Hill Cemetery at this link http://forest-hill-1721.webs.com/
