Weathervane Wednesday ~ A Famous Merry-Go-Round

I post a series of weather vane photographs every Wednesday.  This started with images of weathervanes from the Londonderry, New Hampshire area, but now I've found interesting weather vanes all across New England and across the globe.  Sometimes my weather vanes are whimsical, or historical, but all are interesting.  Often my readers tip me off to some very unique or unusual weathervanes, too!  If you know a great weather vane near you, let me know if you'd like to have it featured on this blog.

Today's weather vane was photographed in New York by a reader.

Do you know the location of weathervane post #297?  Scroll down to find the answer.

Today's weather vane was photographed by genealogy blogger Elizabeth Pyle Handler in Central Park, New York City.  It is on the cupola above the Central Park Carousel.  This merry-go-round was built in 1908 in Coney Island. was moved to Central Park in 1951 and housed in this brick structure.   It also received a major renovation in 1990. It is called the Trump Carousel because in 2010 he leased it until 2020 in return for $400,000 in renovations.

The weathervane is a three dimensional carousel horse under a two dimensional umbrella.  According to Wikipedia, there are models of this carousel in the Legoland Florida and Legoland California.  We had been to the Legoland in San Diego in 2014, and when I checked my photo file, sure enough, there were two photos of this carousel made out of Lego.  Unfortunately, there was no tiny Lego weathervane atop the model.
