Isaac Huse, son of Abel Huse and Mary Whittier, was born in
Methuen, Massachusetts on 16 September 1759, died in September 1833 in
Manchester, New Hampshire; married Joanne Rowell on 1 July 1802 in
Londonderry. She was the daughter of
David Rowell and Sarah Cheney, born in 1780 and died on 1 July 1820 in
Manchester. They had seven children:
Isaac, Mary, Jerome Bonaparte, Lydia, Susan, John and Elizabeth.
The land next to this cemetery was once the property of
Isaac Huse, and later was the location of the Derryfield meetinghouse. It was the center of Derryfield, hence the name "Center Cemetery". Isaac was a veteran of the Revolutionary War,
answering the Lexington Alarm, and enlisting three times.
According to Early
Records of the Town of Derryfield: 1782 – 1800, Isaac Huse was voted as
the constable, moderator, selectman and
other civil positions for Derryfield.
Derryfield was renamed Manchester in 1810, the year the Amoskeag
Manufacturing Company was incorporated. In 1810 the largest tax payer was Isaac Huse
at $16.30. He was chosen as the first
representative from Manchester in 1816.
Isaac Huse was a descendant of Able Huse and his wife
Eleanor, some of the first settlers in Newbury, Massachusetts.
