Today's weather vane is from somewhere in Maine.
Do you know the location of weather vane #380? Scroll down to see the answer...
This three dimensional moose weathervane was photographed at the northbound Kennebunk rest area off the Maine Turnpike (Route 95). It is a large weathervane, visible from the turnpike. There is also a lobster weathervane above the southbound rest area concession building, but I wasn't able to stop at that one for a photo. Moose and lobsters are ubiquitous symbols of Maine for tourists.
If you are a moose fan, there is also a large, life-sized statue of a moose on the sidewalk between the parking area and concession building at this rest area.
For a bit of historical fun, check out this 1970 brochure listing all the "rest areas" in Maine. Remember that in 1970 the Maine Turnpike had not been built, and the rest areas described were just picnic tables and parking!
