Stephen Hills, age 16, Hooksett, New Hampshire ~ Tombstone Tuesday

This tombstone was photographed at the Davis-Cate Cemetery in Hooksett, New Hampshire

STEPHEN
only son of George
& Jane Hills,
died Jan. 27,
1844
AE 16 yrs. 7 mo.

He lay his aching head,
Upon his Savior's breast
His Maker took his soul away
And laid his flesh to rest.

I couldn't find information on young Stephen Hills, or why he died so young.  His parents were George Hills and Jane Gregg.  She was a descendant of James Gregg, the immigrant for Ayrshire, Scotland and Northern Ireland to Nutfield.  Jane's father, Joseph Gregg, was born in Londonderry, New Hampshire in 1763, settled in Acworth, New Hampshire and married Sally Reynolds. [See page 223 of The History of Acworth with The Proceedings of the Centennial Anniversary, Genealogical Records, and Register of Farms, edited by Rev. J. L. Merrill, 1869]
