  2. Ok silly question maybe ---but do they call them Charter JOhn Moor and Charter so and so because they came over here under on the agreement of the charter from the king?

  3. Yes, it's an old term that you still see used, especially in Derry and Londonderry where there were many, many men named John Moore!

  4. Do you by chance have any information on the father or mother of Samuel Moore? I'm a descendent from his brother, John Moore 1648-1692. Thanks :)

  5. Hi, do you happen to know if any of his descendents were Loyalists moving to New Brunswick following the Revolutionary War? I believe I'm barking up the right (family) tree.

    1. Melissa, I don't know about the generations later than this. Sorry. You probably know more than I do about this family!

  6. The term "Charter" signifies there standing as one of the original members of the Charter of Nutfield in 1719. The Scotch-Irish who came circa 1719 had no agreement or "Charter" with the King of England or the Massachusetts Bay Colony governance.

  7. Very glad I found this. I am Charter John Moor's 8x Great grandson, haha. Dorothy Moore was my great aunt, and for years was the family historian. John Moor's great grandson John Ferguson Moore, moved to Gillisonville SC in 1830. The Moores of that particular branch of the family have lived in the Carolinas ever since. Does anyone have any info. regarding the Moore-Scott house on Windham Depot road in Derry NH? I know its connected to the family somehow.

    1. Dear Unknown, Rick Holmes is the town historian of Derry, NH. He might be able to tell you something about the Moore-Scott house.

    2. Stuart: I have some interesting information of John Ferguson Moore of Gillisonville that I published in a magazine a few years ago. You can email me at davedixonhistory@gmail.com and I will send you a pdf of the article.

  8. Charter Samuel Moor is my great x 8 grandfather. I am working on finding more information about his parents in Scotland but it may require a trip over there. If I find anything I will share.

  9. I am from the MacSporrans of Argyll Scotland. I have a copy of a will from 1676 which lists John Moor as an executor. Gilbert MacSporran from Clachaig, Killian, Argyll, Scotland died 1674. Were there many Moor's in Scotland at that time with this name? Or, could this be your John Moor who died at Glencoe?

    1. Marguerita, I have no idea if this is the same John Moor. I know that there were many Moor families in Nutfield, and they were Scots Irish.

  10. Tantalizing bits on your Nutfield/Londonderry Blog. I live in a neighborhood where many Loyalists from Londonderry, and New Boston, settled in 1784. Interestingly many of the families are still represented in the area, within 15 miles or so. Moore, Vance, Christie, McCollum, McAllister. Most arrived as part of the Cape Ann Association. If you give me an email, happy to send a fascinating academic article on this migration - which was more economic than anything else. - Tom Moffatt, St. David Ridge, NB

    2. Just curious what you had on the Moore family as loyalists. I descend from John Moor of Londonderry by way of Robert and Daniel and Elizabeth . I also descend from the Samuel Moor line from Londonderry. I have been surprised in my research that I haven’t seen loyalist pop up in this line. Wondered if you might share your information. Thanks.

    3. Wondered if you might be willing to share your info on the Moore family as loyalists. I descend from John Moor through Elizabeth, Robert, and Daniel and then again through Samuel Moore. Thanks
