Weathervane Wednesday ~ Another Harvard House

I post another in a series of weather vane photographs every Wednesday.  This started with images of weathervanes from the Londonderry, New Hampshire area, but now I've found interesting weather vanes all across New England and across the globe.  Sometimes my weather vanes are whimsical, or historical, but all are interesting.  Often my readers tip me off to some very unique or unusual weathervanes, too!  If you know a great weather vane near you, let me know if you'd like to have it featured on this blog.

Today's weather vane was photographed at Harvard University, just like last week's weathervane.

Today’s weathervane was photographed at Eliot House, at Harvard University. This residence hall is located at 101 Dunster Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  It has three open courtyards, and a belltower. Eliot House is named for President Charles W. Eliot, whose term as college president ran from 189 to 1909.  The Eliot House crest is based on the Eliot family coat of arms, and the house mascot, the elephant, is derived from the family crest, too.   There are four elephants hidden in the architecture of Eliot House.  The house colors are blue, red and white.   There are about 450 students at Eliot House known as “Eliotites”.

The green cupola above the belltower supports the gilded weathervane.  This scrolled weathervane represents a later style than the swallow-tailed weathervane style at Dunster House featured last week.  There are no cardinal points (North, South, East, or West indicators), and the finial is a starburst.  It has a nice patina, versus the shiny new Dunster House weathervane.
