Portsmouth Peace Treaty Day, 5 September 2011, Statewide program
commemorating the signing of the Portsmouth Peace Treaty that ended the
Russo-Japanese War of 1905.. Highlights around Portsmouth include a salute by
the Navy at the Naval Shipyard followed by bell ringing throughout the area and
beyond at 3:47PM. A talk on Theodore
Roosevelt’s Nobel Peace Prize and the citizen diplomacy of the people of New
