This Little Piggy - Museum of Science, Boston, Massachusetts

You just never know when you will find a weathervane!  Today's weathervane was spotted indoors at the Children's Discovery Center inside the Museum of Science in Boston, Massachusetts.

The children's Discovery Center at the Museum of Science is a special part of this museum only for children under age eight and their accompanying adults.  It is full of hands-on activities, and a space to relax, play and discover STEAM.  There is an experiment station with staff assisting young visitors with daily challenges, and two floors of fun including a special area only for infants under age twelve months, and another only for children under age five.  The Discovery Center is open 10am to 4:45 every day. It can get very busy on school vacation weeks. But when we visit on Monday mornings, sometimes we are the only visitors for the first hour or two.

This piggy weathervane can be seen above the habitats for animals, including a 20 year old turtle, and a gecko born in 2002.  The piggy is over the hedgehog terrarium.  It is a whimsical, two dimensional animal leaping in the air, with a curly tail and floppy ears.  Somehow I think of Wilbur the pig from the novel Charlotte's Web every time I see him.  Perhaps the designer of this children's space thought the same thing.

  1. Incredibly, I have seen the same vane on a house near where I sometimes walk! I call it the "pigs might fly" house!
