WHEELER
John Wheeler, my 11th great grandfather, was born about 1575 and died 1644. He had eleven children baptized at Cranfield,
England, including Isaac, baptized 13 September 1607 (my 10th great
grandfather), and his brother Obadiah, baptized on 10 December 1609, who
settled in Concord. It is unknown if
more siblings came to the New World.
Isaac was in Charlestown, Massachusetts as early as 1639,
and was admitted as a member of the first church there on 30 September
1642. He lived in the part of
Charlestown that became the town of Malden.
His wife was Frances, her maiden name is still unknown When Isaac died in 1643, she remarried to Richard Cook, and then toThomas Green, the father of two of her sons-in-law. Her daughter Elizabeth, born 8 July 1641
married William Green (my 9th great grandparents), and daughter
Sarah, born 16 March 1643, married John Green.
Two Green brothers married two Wheeler sisters. The boys’ father married their wives’ mother.
Not only is her marriage to Thomas Green interesting, but
Frances had a fourth marriage to Joseph Wheeler, the first cousin to her first
husband, John Wheeler!

We have another shared cousin - I am descended from Obadiah. :)
ReplyDeleteI am descended from a William wheeler born 1580 in Odell wilshere England. Sun George wheeler born 1605 and why early Cranfield bedfordshire England died about 1687 in Concord Middlesex Massachusetts. Could this be the same family?

ReplyDeleteThere seem to be many WHEELER families in New England. I'm not sure if they are related.
DeleteHi, Heather. Who is the father of John Wheeler (b. 1575)? It's pretty confusing. My connection is through Obadiah.
ReplyDeleteHere are the ancestors of Obadiah:
John Wheeler (1534 - 1567)
10th great-grandfather
John Wheeler (1563 - 1643)
Son of John Wheeler
Obadiah Wheeler (1609 - 1671)
Dan
According to the American Genealogist "Thomas Wheeler and Some of his Descendants" article, Volume 12 (1935), page 5 - "About the year 1600 three men named Wheeler were living in Cranfield, married and having families. These were Thomas, John, and Richard, "the younger". Thomas was probably the oldest of the three. "RRichard the younger" implies an older Richard. We know not how they were related. Thomas and John may have been brothers." Although this article was written ovr 80 years ago, there is no more recent article and it seems no one has found any new proof.
