Weathervane Wednesday ~ A Grasshopper on top of the Hardware Store

Weathervane Wednesday is an on-going series of photographs I post weekly.  I started out by publishing only weather vanes from the Londonderry area, but now I've been finding interesting weather vanes from all over New England.  Sometimes these weather vanes are whimsical, or historical, but all are very unique.  Often, my readers tip me off to some very special and unusual weather vanes.

Today's weather vane is from somewhere in New Hampshire.

Do you know the location of weather vane #256?  Scroll down to see the answer...

This grasshopper weather vane was photographed at the Ace Hardware store on 5 Depot Street in Goffstown, New Hampshire.    The grasshopper appears to be a replica of the famous weather vane designed by Shem Drowne in 1742 that sits above Faneuil Hall in Boston, Massachusetts.  As the most famous weather vane in New England, there are many copies to be seen all over.  Of course, this one is not as big, nor as detailed, nor is it gilded - but it is instantly recognizable!

This hardware store was built in 2006 to replace a group of smaller buildings that made up Goffstown Hardware store.  The original business was started in 1937 by the Lane family where Vikster's Pizza now stands on Main Street.  The Goffstown Hardware is now owned by the Brown family.

  1. I've been to Faneuil Hall but didn't notice the weathervane. I have to learn to look up!
